The problem: unintentional childhood injury
Unintentional childhood injury is the number one cause of death in children age 19 and younger in the United States. Each year, one in four children need medical attention for these injuries. However, we know that through education and awareness, as many as 90 percent of these injuries can be prevented.
The solution: Safe Kids Wisconsin
As part of Safe Kids Worldwide, Safe Kids Wisconsin is one of more than 400 grassroots coalitions in the United States that brings together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families on issues surrounding child safety.
Safe Kids Wisconsin supports eleven coalitions that provide safety education, support and programming throughout the state. Safe Kids Wisconsin is led by Children’s Wisconsin, the region's only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. In addition to providing world-class medical care and research, Children’s Wisconsin works closely with parents, caregivers, educators and communities across the state to offer services and resources that help keep Wisconsin’s kids healthy, happy and safe.
Safe Kids Wisconsin and Children’s Wisconsin are contracted by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to coordinate the Wisconsin Child Passenger Safety Program. This program provides child passenger safety technician training and resources on child passenger safety for parents and caregivers.
